Inspiring Travelers to Escape Together

Recently Renovated is a Relative Term…

I now truly understand that you can take a theme too far. It is not reserved for Mother’s at their children’s birthday parties or for wedding planners that just must have everything covered in pink for an upcoming nuptial. The Luxor has also joined their ranks in letting their decorator loose with every imaginable item related to Egypt, pyramids, pharaoh, or the Nile.

We chose the Tower rooms because they were “recently renovated” and offered additional square footage. This we figured would be important to Escape Together readers who travel in groups and would want newer rooms with a lot of space. As we traveled through the maze of the large casino hotel to our rooms we couldn’t help but notice the random pictures of Cleopatra or Egyptian kings framed on the walls. If they had been nice pictures it might have been a nice addition to the theme but they were tacky dollar store photos that were thrown into even tackier frames. This should have been our first warning of what was to come…

As we entered our room we realized that “Recently Renovated” is a relative term. Apparently the Luxor did not receive the notice that every other hotel in America received stating that beds are the most important thing in hotel rooms. Their beds appeared to have been circa 1990 with large comforters, two small pillows and a hard mattress. Apparently the only renovations were to the large armoire case and bathroom, which included a large tub and standing shower. The bathroom I will admit was very nice even with the tacky Cleopatra photos.

Of course, in Vegas it is not about the hotel rooms it is about the things to do and the Luxor does have a great spa, LAX nightclub, and a million other things to keep you out of the room. But you can also take advantage of all these things and never have to look at those horrible tacky photos or stay on those uncomfortable beds. Other properties have recently renovated their rooms (circa 2000 +) and you can still come to the Luxor and take advantage of all the great things the resort has to offer.  If you don’t care about the rooms and just want someplace to lay your head at night then head towards all things stereotypically Egyptian.

I find a lot of hotels throw around “recently renovated” for almost everything, just like they’ll tell you you got upgraded to a “premium room” which looks exactly like the normal ones…

Your photos from the Luxor tower though are nicer than the room I stayed in the pyramid earlier this year ;) Renovated is indeed a relative term.
